Timeshare Transfer Fees 2026: What 18 Brands Charge When You Sell

Data study by BidMyTimeshare.com, checked September 2026. Free to quote with attribution and a link to this page.

When a timeshare changes hands on the resale market, the resort or club almost always charges the buyer or seller a transfer fee, and many brands also strip benefits from the resale owner. Those costs are rarely shown in one place. We checked the published rules, broker pages and owner reports for 18 brands and exchange companies and put the results in one table.

Key findings

  • 8 of 18 brands publish a transfer fee or have one confirmed in official documents. 5 have only broker or owner estimates, and 5 publish nothing at all.
  • The most expensive published transfer is Marriott Vacation Club points: $750 per 250 points with a $3,000 minimum, plus fees. The cheapest brand fee we found is Club Wyndham and WorldMark at $399.
  • Hilton Grand Vacations charges $1,342 in combined fees from 1 January 2026 ($736 activation, $504 ownership change, $102 estoppel). Disney Vacation Club introduced a $500 Contract Administration Fee for resale contracts signed from 1 January 2026.
  • In Europe, Anfi charges €700 per transfer, usually split between buyer and seller, while Diamond Resorts / HGV Europe charges £299 for points and £200 per week certificate.
  • 12 of 16 timeshare brands have a right of first refusal or club approval step, which can add 8 to 30 days to a sale.
  • 16 of 16 brands reduce benefits for resale buyers: no hotel-points conversion, no elite tiers, or booking limited to the home resort. This is the main reason resale prices sit far below developer prices.
  • Exchange membership is separate: RCI charges $98 (US) or $142 CAD to transfer a membership, and Interval International requires the buyer to be the owner of record first.

"Not published" means we found no official figure. Broker and owner figures are marked as such. Fees change; always confirm with the resort before closing.

What this means for sellers

Three practical conclusions from the data:

  1. Agree in writing who pays the transfer fee. At Anfi it is customary to split it; in the United States the buyer usually pays, but a $1,000+ fee can kill a $3,000 sale if nobody mentions it until closing.
  2. Budget time for the right of first refusal. Disney asks for the contract 30 days before closing, Marriott needs 15 to 30 days, and brokers report that a full Marriott points transfer takes 3 to 4 months.
  3. Price for what the buyer actually gets. A resale buyer who cannot use hotel-points conversion or elite tiers will not pay developer prices. Published asking prices on BidMyTimeshare for the same brands are typically a small fraction of the original purchase price.

Method

For each brand we looked for an official fee schedule, club rules or disclosure statement first, then licensed-broker pages, then owner reports on the Timeshare Users Group (TUG) forum. Where sources disagreed we recorded the official figure and noted the rest. The check date for every row is September 2026. We will update this page when brands publish new fee schedules; corrections are welcome at [email protected].

Detailed notes by brand

  • Disney Vacation Club
    • Disney charges a $500 Contract Administration Fee on resale contracts signed on or after 1 January 2026.
    • Disney has a right of first refusal: the resale contract must reach Disney at least 30 days before closing.
    • Resale points at Disney's Riviera Resort (since 19 January 2019) can only be used at their home resort, and Membership Extras are for direct buyers only. Resale brokers list Villas at Disneyland Hotel and Cabins at Fort Wilderness with the same restriction.
    • Resale trackers reported Disney buying back 3.7% to 15% of resale contracts in 2026, depending on the tracker.
  • Marriott Vacation Club
    • According to a licensed resale broker, Marriott charges resale buyers of points $750 per 250 points (minimum $3,000), plus a $300 education fee for first-time owners and a $95 fee when it waives its right of first refusal.
    • For legacy weeks in the US, RedWeek lists a $25 transfer fee plus a $95 right-of-first-refusal fee.
    • Marriott's right of first refusal runs 15–30 days depending on the resort.
    • Only points bought from Marriott count toward the Reserve and Pinnacle membership tiers, and resale legacy weeks cannot enrol in Abound or convert to Marriott Bonvoy points.
    • Marriott does not publish these fees on an open page; the owner portal requires a login.
  • Hilton Grand Vacations
    • HGV's fee schedule effective 1 January 2026, as posted by owners, lists a $736 activation fee for resale purchases, a $504 ownership change fee and a $102 estoppel fee. The 2025 figures were $715, $489 and $99.
    • HGV's official club disclosure says transfers may be subject to a right of first refusal; brokers report 30 days.
    • Resale buyers get limited Hilton Honors conversion, no automatic elevated Honors status, no Open Season benefits and no access to HGV Max.
    • Brokers quote anywhere from 4–6 weeks to 60–120 days for a resale to close.
  • Diamond Resorts (now Hilton Grand Vacations), USA
    • The official club rules state that resale buyers do not automatically receive membership in the Club, and HGV Max is not available to secondary-market buyers.
    • HGV does not publish a transfer fee for these contracts. An owner reported $250 per contract in March 2024.
  • Hyatt Vacation Club
    • Hyatt does not publish a resale transfer fee. RedWeek quotes $500 and a right of first refusal of up to 30 days, but its page appears to predate 2017; an owner reported about $600 for closing and transfer in May 2025.
    • Owners who buy on the resale market cannot convert their ownership to World of Hyatt points.
    • A resale broker puts transfers at 8–10 weeks.
  • Club Wyndham
    • Club Wyndham's help pages list a $399 ownership change processing charge.
    • Wyndham states that resale points cannot be used for VIP benefits, Club Pass, Wyndham Rewards conversion or PlusPartners.
    • Owners report that only some Club Wyndham Access contracts (from about 2017) carry a right of first refusal, and that it is rarely used; some brokers describe it as general.
  • WorldMark by Wyndham
    • WorldMark resale brokers list a $399 transfer fee in their 2025–2026 price lists.
    • WorldMark's Club Pass exchange is limited to developer-purchased vacation credits.
    • Owners report that VIP and TravelShare status transfers only to family members.
  • Holiday Inn Club Vacations
    • Holiday Inn Club Vacations does not publish a resale transfer fee. The $1,200 per contract on its Horizons page is the fee for exiting through the company, not a transfer fee.
    • Owners report that points revert to a fixed deeded week when sold, except at South Beach, Lake Geneva and Gatlinburg/Smoky Mountain (reports from 2014 and 2020).
  • Bluegreen Vacations (now Hilton Grand Vacations)
    • A resale broker quotes a Bluegreen transfer fee of about $500, a right of first refusal and 30–90 days to complete.
    • Owners report that resale buyers can use Bonus Time only at their home resort and do not receive Premier status.
  • Westgate Resorts
    • A resale company quotes about $500 and 12 weeks or more for a Westgate transfer.
    • Owners report a 60-day booking window for resale owners (30 days on some deeds) and an internal exchange fee of $700 against $169 for direct buyers.
    • Westgate holds a right of first refusal, which owners say it uses occasionally.
  • Vidanta (Mayan Palace, Grand Mayan)
    • Vidanta does not publish a resale transfer fee. Owners report that the fee for a non-family transfer depends on when the contract was signed – from one year's maintenance fee on pre-2002 contracts up to ten times the annual fee on contracts from 2013 (2019 report).
    • Owners report that newer 100-year certificates can only pass to immediate family or heirs, and that add-on benefits end on sale (2022 report).
  • Villa Group (Villa del Palmar, Villa del Arco)
    • The club's own FAQ says there is no mechanism offered by the Club or the Developer to assist in a resale, and that the membership must be fully paid with fees up to date before a transfer.
    • Owners report that transfers outside the family revert to a basic contract or a week with a home resort (2018 and 2024 reports).
  • Anfi (Anfi del Mar, Gran Canaria)
    • According to an independent Anfi owners' club, Anfi has charged a €700 transfer fee since September 2011, usually shared equally by buyer and seller.
    • Anfi's own resale page shows that memberships bought privately do not include Anfi Vacation Club membership, Club or RCI week exchanges, or the rental programme.
    • The 2008 Club Gran Anfi rules give the developer a pre-emptive right: after the seller's notice of the price, buyer and terms, Anfi Sales has 15 days to buy the week on those terms.
  • Marriott Vacation Club in Europe (Marbella, Playa Andaluza, Son Antem)
    • Marriott does not publish a transfer fee for its European resorts. A Marbella resale broker charges buyers €390 per week, which is the broker's own fee, not Marriott's.
    • Marbella Beach Resort, Playa Andaluza and Son Antem appear on a 2017 list of resorts where Marriott holds a 30-day right of first refusal; the broker puts transfers at 60–90 business days.
  • Diamond Resorts / HGV Europe (e.g. Sunset Harbour, Royal Sunset Beach)
    • Diamond's key information document lists £299 / €343.85 to transfer points to a new or existing member, £200 / €230 to transfer a week to a new owner and £75 / €86.25 for a family transfer, per certificate (March 2022).
    • The 2026 governing documents allow transfers only to family, heirs, through an HGV-appointed regulated intermediary or at HGV's discretion, and state that resale-only points owners are not enrolled as Members in The Club.
  • Club La Costa
    • Club La Costa's owner guide states that it does not offer or promote any resale service (2016).
    • For fractional ownership, the 2014 rules require a Transfer Notice to the vendor, which has eight days to buy on the notified terms; if it declines, the owner has three months to sell to that buyer.
    • Club La Costa (UK) Plc entered administration in November 2020 and later liquidation, according to a law firm summarising the liquidators' January 2026 report. Owners should confirm the current transfer process directly with the club before agreeing a sale.
  • RCI
    • RCI charges a $98 USD / $142 CAD processing fee to transfer a membership in North America. The subscription is an asset separate from the timeshare: the seller may keep it or transfer it.
    • For RCI Points, the new member also pays $134 in first-year dues, and the Platinum tier does not transfer. No European fee is published.
  • Interval International
    • Interval International requires resale buyers to confirm that they are the owner of record before applying for membership.
    • An administrative fee to add a week is waived with a one-year renewal; the amount is not published.
