How to sell timeshare points

What you are actually selling

Most developer points are a way of using a real estate interest or a club contract: Club Wyndham points sit on a deeded or trust contract, Disney Vacation Club points on a deeded interest at a home resort, and WorldMark credits in a club account. Hapimag points come with a share in the company. The buyer takes over the contract and, with it, the annual maintenance fees or charges.

Exchange points are different. RCI Points are an exchange membership linked to your timeshare, and RCI's terms make a points transfer invalid, with the points forfeited, if any compensation changes hands. To sell, you sell the timeshare itself.

Can you sell only part of your points?

It depends on the programme. WorldMark's own ownership change forms allow an account to be split with a new owner, and owners report that a Marriott Destinations points contract is made up of separate beneficial interests, so part of it can be sold (2025 report). Disney says a contract is an undividable deeded interest, owners report that one Club Wyndham contract cannot be split (2022 report), and Diamond's European Collection sells and relinquishes points only by whole certificate.

Owners with several separate contracts, for example at Disney or Club Wyndham, can sell each contract on its own.

Points already in your account

At a Disney Vacation Club resale closing, banked, borrowed and Holding Account points move to the buyer with the same status, while Reservation Points cannot be transferred and expire. With Club Wyndham, owners report that points deposited for later years have not reached buyers and that some current-year points were lost in transfers in the second half of the year (2023 reports), so do not promise points that the resort has not confirmed in writing.

Hapimag points expiring in the current year can be used for arrivals up to 30 June, transferred to family and friends, or sold on the Points Platform until the day before they expire.

When points turn back into weeks

Some points ownerships change shape on resale. Owners report that Holiday Inn Club Vacations points revert to a fixed deeded week except at a few resorts, and a Marriott resale broker warns that a legacy week converted into Destinations points reverts to the original week when it is sold.

In Europe the conversion can work in the seller's favour: Diamond's European Collection lets a points member convert points into weeks of equivalent value free of charge, so that the weeks can be sold through any resale company.

Points programmes with an end date

Check how long your points last before you set a price. Diamond's European Collection membership ends on 31 December 2054, Club La Costa's fractional ownership is due to end by 31 December 2040, and WorldMark's Club Guidelines describe Standard credits as lasting 40 years while Premier credits are perpetual.

How a points sale works, step by step

1. 1

   Find your contract and points statement

   Note the annual points, the use year, banked or borrowed points, the maintenance fee and any loan on the contract.

2. 2

   Check your programme's rules

   Open your brand's seller's guide for the transfer fee, the right of first refusal and what a resale buyer receives.

3. 3

   Decide what the sale includes

   State whether current-year and banked points go to the buyer, and whether you are selling the whole contract or part of it where that is allowed.

4. 4

   Advertise the points

   Publish a listing with the programme, home resort, points, use year, fees and asking price. On BidMyTimeshare.com buyers contact you directly, and you decide which offer to accept.

5. 5

   Agree the sale in writing

   Put the price, the points included, who pays the resort's transfer fee and closing costs, and the timetable in a signed sales contract.

6. 6

   Transfer through the resort

   Complete the transfer through the resort or club, a closing company where one is used, and any right-of-first-refusal review, and keep paying fees until the resort confirms the change.
