The Resort & Its Setting

Sunset Lagoon sits in Cancún's Hotel Zone, close to the Caribbean beaches that make this stretch of coastline so well known. Unlike a branded chain resort, it's independently managed, which generally means a smaller, owner-focused operation rather than a large corporate programme. Its RCI affiliation gives owners the option to trade their week or points for stays at other RCI resorts worldwide, in addition to using their home week at Sunset Lagoon directly.

Cancún and the Riviera Maya

Cancún's Hotel Zone is the obvious draw on your doorstep — beachfront promenades, water sports operators, restaurants and clubs within a short ride of the resort. But the real appeal of owning here is how much of Quintana Roo opens up from this base. Playa del Carmen, with its pedestrian Fifth Avenue, is about 45km south. Xcaret eco-park and Xel-Há's lagoon-meets-sea snorkelling are both roughly 50–95km away, and further inland you'll find Chichén Itzá and the Ik Kil cenote, both around two hours' drive and easily combined on a single day trip. Many owners rent a car for the cenotes and ruins, though shuttles between the main sites are widely available too.

Selling or Renting a Week at Sunset Lagoon

If you no longer use your Sunset Lagoon week, you can list it for resale or as a rental directly on BidMyTimeshare.com. Short-term renters booking a week at Sunset Lagoon are usually drawn by the Hotel Zone beach access and proximity to Cancún's restaurants and nightlife, plus the option to take day trips to Playa del Carmen, Xcaret or the Mayan ruins inland. Clear information on unit size, view and specific travel dates helps a listing stand out, as does noting whether the week falls in high season (November–March), when Cancún accommodation books up well ahead.

Practical Notes

Cancún International Airport (CUN) is the main gateway, roughly 20–25km from the Hotel Zone, with shuttles, taxis and rental cars covering the 30–45 minute run to the resort area. The Mexican peso is the local currency, though US dollars are widely accepted in Cancún's tourist zones. Hurricane season runs June to November, so travel insurance is worth considering for stays booked in that window, and owners exchanging through RCI should plan early, as popular weeks and resorts fill up quickly.
