How to sell a timeshare with RCI Points

What RCI Points are, and what they are not

RCI Points is an exchange membership linked to a timeshare at an RCI-affiliated resort. RCI Europe says the membership is separate from timeshare ownership and that questions about the ownership itself should go to the resort or vendor where it was bought, and RCI's 'Passing on a timeshare' page states that RCI is an exchange membership organisation only and does not buy, sell or resell timeshare.

RCI's own page titled 'Want to sell your timeshare?' does not explain how to sell; it presents RCI Weeks exchange membership as an alternative to selling. To sell, you deal with your resort and your buyer, and then settle what happens to the RCI membership.

RCI Points in North America

RCI's 2026–2027 North American terms say a transfer of RCI Points is invalid, and the points are forfeited, if there is any compensation between giver and receiver. Points can be given to another member for use in that member's current use year, and the receiver can only give them back to the original member; the first points transfer in a use year carries no transaction fee and each further transfer in the same year costs $98.

When a North American member sells the timeshare, RCI may approve a transfer of the remaining term of the RCI Points membership to the buyer, who takes the timeshare subject to any exchanges already confirmed. RCI charges a $98 USD / $142 CAD processing fee, the new member pays $134 in first-year dues for RCI Points, and the Platinum tier does not transfer. RCI may also approve the transfer of a Weeks deposit or deposit credit to another member for $98, provided both confirm that it is not for compensation or commercial use; if deposited dates fall after a sale, the buyer must honour RCI's exclusive use of that time.

RCI Points in Europe

RCI Europe's Points network rules say RCI may terminate a membership when the accommodation is sold, and a buyer who wants RCI Points must apply and be accepted at RCI's discretion. European members cede the use of their accommodation to the network for the term of their participation agreement while keeping title and all maintenance obligations, and on termination those use rights stay assigned to the network unless RCI releases them.

A European member cannot withdraw from the network until the participation agreement expires or the use rights are validly surrendered, which requires at least 12 months' written notice and is not possible while reservations are outstanding. The rules forbid using the network for commercial purposes, including rental or sale, and points not used or saved within the use year expire. RCI Weeks membership in Europe is personal and cannot be transferred or sold: tell RCI as soon as possible and agree with the buyer who may use any week already deposited.

An example: Holiday Club in Åre, Sweden

Some resorts require the RCI link to be ended before a sale. Holiday Club Sweden tells Åre owners that a week cannot be sold while it is connected to RCI, so the RCI membership must be cancelled first, and any points left in the account are lost. Check your own resort's rule before you advertise.

How to sell a timeshare that is in RCI Points

   Read your RCI agreement

   Check your membership term, the participation agreement (in Europe) and the notice period for leaving the Points network.

2. 2

   Ask your resort about the sale

   RCI tells owners to contact their affiliated resort about passing on a timeshare; the resort handles the ownership transfer.

3. 3

   Decide what happens to the RCI membership

   In North America, ask RCI whether the remaining term can transfer to the buyer. In Europe, expect RCI to review the membership and the buyer to apply; some resorts require you to cancel RCI before selling.

4. 4

   Settle reservations, points and deposits

   Use or release confirmed exchanges and agree in writing with the buyer who may use any deposited week or remaining points.

5. 5

   Advertise the timeshare

   Advertise the week or resort ownership, not the points. On BidMyTimeshare.com buyers contact you directly, and you decide which offer to accept.

6. 6

   Complete the transfer and inform RCI

   Complete the ownership transfer through the resort, then send RCI the transfer paperwork or cancellation so that the membership is closed or moved.
