How to sell a Vidanta timeshare
A Vidanta membership (Mayan Palace, Grand Mayan, Grand Luxxe) is a right-to-use contract, and what you can transfer depends on your contract. Vidanta does not publish a transfer fee or an exit programme. Owners report that the Assignment section of the contract sets how many annual maintenance fees must be paid to transfer it outside the family, from one year's fee on pre-2002 contracts up to ten times the fee on contracts from 2013, and that newer 100-year certificates can only pass to family or heirs. Start with Vidanta Member Services on 1-800-292-9446.

What you are selling
Owners describe Vidanta memberships as right-to-use contracts rather than deeded real estate (2021 and 2023 reports). Contract terms vary between tiers and eras, so the contract number and, ideally, the original contract with all its addenda are the most important documents: owners report that the Assignment section and the addenda decide what can be transferred (2021 reports).
Check the renewal terms too. Owners report that older Mayan Palace contracts needed a renewal payment every 25 years equal to five maintenance fees, while contracts upgraded after 2010 generally renew every 10 years for one maintenance fee (2021 report).
Who can buy it and what transfers
Owners report that the fee for a transfer outside the family depends on when the contract was signed, from one year's maintenance fee on pre-2002 contracts up to ten times the annual fee on contracts from 2013 (2019 report), and that newer 100-year certificates can only pass to immediate family or heirs (2022 report).
Owners also report that add-on benefits end on sale and that senior certificates attached to a membership do not pass to anyone when it is transferred (2021–2022 reports). A buyer who knows this in advance negotiates on firmer ground, so put the details in writing.
Your options
- Sell to a buyer outside the family, if your contract allows it. Budget for the assignment fee that your contract sets, and agree in writing who pays it.
- Transfer it within the family or to heirs. Owners report that an inherited membership took about five months to move into an heir's name, with further requirements added along the way (2021 report).
- There is no company buyback. Vidanta and Vida Vacations do not publish an exit, deed-back or buy-back programme, and Vida Vacations says anyone offering to repurchase your weeks on its behalf is a scammer.
Ask before you agree a price
Owners advise starting with Vidanta Member Services on 1-800-292-9446 to confirm exactly what the contract includes and what a transfer requires (2021 reports). A prospective resale buyer reported getting Vidanta's transfer costs, and which contract addenda would transfer, in writing before deciding (2021 report).
Owners also advise asking Vidanta about upcoming refurbishment or renewal fees before a contract changes hands (2021 reports), because a buyer will ask.

Agree the sale in writing
Put the price, who pays Vidanta's transfer fee, what is included and the timetable into a sales contract signed by you and the buyer.
Send Vidanta's documents
Owners reported in 2021 that Member Services emailed a letter listing the documents needed, such as proof of identity, and that everything had to be sent by FedEx because email was not accepted.
Avoid resale and repurchase scams
The US Federal Trade Commission warns that resale scammers guarantee an easy sale or say they already have a buyer, then ask the owner to pay thousands of dollars upfront (September 2025). Vida Vacations says anyone who contacts owners claiming to represent Vida Vacations or Vidanta in order to repurchase or rent their weeks is a scammer, and that it never contacts owners about renting their weeks.
- Genuine emails come only from @vidavacations.com, @vidanta.com and @grupovidanta.com addresses; Vida Vacations publishes a list of impostor domains used by scammers.
- A request to pay into any account other than the one in your contract is fraud. Hang up and call back on 1-800-292-9446, because caller ID can be spoofed.
- Vida Vacations has no international offices and is located only in Mexico.
- On BidMyTimeshare.com you pay a one-time fee to publish your advertisement. We do not deal with buyers for you, take part in the sale or promise that your membership will sell.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Vidanta charge to transfer a membership?
Vidanta does not publish a fee. Owners report that it depends on when the contract was signed, from one year's maintenance fee on pre-2002 contracts up to ten times the annual fee on contracts from 2013 (2019 report).
Will Vidanta buy back my membership?
No exit or buy-back programme is published. Vida Vacations warns that anyone claiming to represent it in order to repurchase your weeks is a scammer.
How long does a Vidanta transfer take?
Vidanta does not publish a timeline. Owners report that an inherited membership took about five months to move into an heir's name (2021 report).
Do I have to pay renewal fees before selling?
Check your contract. Owners report renewal payments every 25 years equal to five maintenance fees on older Mayan Palace contracts, and every 10 years for one maintenance fee on contracts upgraded after 2010 (2021 report). Ask Vidanta about upcoming renewal or refurbishment fees before you agree a price.
Is a Vidanta membership real estate?
Owners describe Vidanta memberships as right-to-use contracts rather than deeded real estate (2021 and 2023 reports), which is why the contract and its addenda decide what can be sold.
